All is now set for the anticipated World Environment Day webinar being organized by IHS Towers; Africa’s leading expert partners in communications infrastructure, and A’Lime Media Limited; a strategy and advisory firm, with the theme “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature: The Reality of Sustainability in Developing Economies”. The webinar, which is scheduled to hold on Monday June 6, 2022, from 12:00noon — 2:00pm, seeks to provide audiences with an understanding of the importance of living sustainably; being one with nature, the limitations plaguing developing countries in terms of living sustainably and how stakeholders such as the government, organizations and individuals can help manage these challenges.

The World Environment Day, which is celebrated annually on the 5th of June, is one of the tools used by global leaders to create awareness on the importance of sustainability and the need to protect the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1974, the event has grown to become the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of participants from around the world engaging to protect the planet. This year, the theme for the global campaign is “Only One Earth” with a focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.

The webinar will feature Charles Udoh, Commissioner of Environment & Solid Minerals, Akwa Ibom State; Dr. Tiwalade Adeniyi, Sustainability Lead, Coronation Group, Lagos; and Oyinlola Akiboye, Sustainability Professional. Others are Olaide Olawale, Environmental & Sustainability Professional; Priscillia Obot Environmental Engineer & Sustainability Manager, North South Power, Nigeria; and is hosted by William Asim-Ita, Technical Director, A’Lime Media Limited.

Participants for the webinar are drawn from across industries such as finance and engineering, oil and gas, manufacturing, branding and design, communications, recruitment and hiring, food processing and certification, advocacy, construction, community development, government and civil society organizations etc.

In Nigeria, factors such as lack of finance, accountability and proper stakeholder engagement, conflicting interests, unavailability of quality infrastructures, weak institutional capacity, unavailability of expertise, and world politics, militate against the achievement of these goals.
